What is a Home Sleep Study?

A home sleep test is just as it sounds—a sleep test you perform in the comfort of your home to determine if you have sleep apnea. A physician may recommend home sleep apnea testing if it is highly likely you have moderate to severe sleep apnea and you have no significant medical conditions other than the suspected sleep apnea.

A home sleep apnea test is affordable and easy to use. The home sleep test monitors your breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels and breathing effort and will help determine if you have sleep apnea.

You should not have a home sleep apnea test if:

  • You do not have a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea
  • The physician suspects you have another sleep disorder
  • You have certain medical conditions including pulmonary disease, neuromuscular disease or congestive heart failure.

In these cases, your physician may recommend an in lab study that provides the most complete evaluation of your sleep.

How It Works

You will speak with one of our sleep professionals prior to receiving one of our home sleep testing devices. Our sleep pro will walk you through the entire process, from how to use the device to how to follow up on your results. They will also answer any questions you may have.

The home study device is very simple to use. In addition to the verbal instructions you receive over the phone, you will also receive complete written instructions and an email link to a short web video showing a patient putting on and using the device.

We will also provide you with an after-hours support line to call if you have any questions or issues while setting up and using the device.

We will ship the home study device to you. Your shipment will include the device, detailed written instructions and paperwork that needs to be filled out and returned. You will also receive a prepaid, pre-addressed shipping label so you can easily ship the device back to us.
